October Club Sessions Posted*

Writer's picture: E.M.POWERSE.M.POWERS

I'd love to see yas at our lunch-and-learn sessions on Oct 17th and Oct 31st, Club Friends.

The Money Matters Club typically focuses on topics in one of three veins:

  1. Spending less on stuff and taxes

  2. Saving more on future wealth building investments

  3. Protecting yourself and wealth along the way

Traditionally, when the Club would gather in person/virtually/live, we'd always be lunching and learning together on Tuesdays at Noon Pacific Time, often together in a conference room with our virtual attendees joining via a Teams Meeting link. Keeping with that tradition for now, here are two Tuesdays in October, when our 'lil Club will gather again, outside the firewall of my former mothership, and this time with lots of new US workers from a myriad of employers. You will all join me via a Teams Meeting link and at a minimum you will need a browser to connect. Registration is required to get your unique, unshareable join link.

Really looking forward to these!

On Tuesday, Oct 17th we'll be gathering at lunchtime (Noon Pacific, BYO brownbag), and discussing some ins and outs of the choices you can make during annual benefits enrollment that can benefit your bottom line, help you spend less on healthcare and taxes, and help you build more wealth for your future. You'll learn more about the role of a Health Savings Account and how it differs from a Flexible Spending Account. We'll discuss the strategies to leverage one or the other or both types at once in certain circumstances. And we'll talk about the tax implications and rules--all the fine print you may not have had the time or inclination to read yet. If you're a pro on these elections already, I still hope you'll come and help your fellow Club Friends in the live chat during the session or to share your own best-known methods with the others and with me!

On Tuesday, Oct 31st we'll be discussing how to protect yourself against life's uncertainties and unknowns, so that you and your wealth are protected from avoidable risk, also at Noon Pacific (BYO brownbag). In this session we'll talk about ways to protect your financial life and identity, your whole physical life, your home, your auto, and everything else that nests under the umbrella of YOU. We'll touch on a handful of these topics, take questions, and you'll hear from my own insurance rep, Steve Carlson, a long-time returning guest speaker of our 'lil Club back at my former mothership, about the state of the insurance landscape today and what to expect ahead in an honest and candid take on the industry he's in.

Looking forward to seeing you all (cameras optional). These sessions welcome everyone but are designed to help U.S. workers navigate their employer benefits and the US tax and insurance systems. Check out our events:

I'm going to try recordings on an experimental basis (no promises they will be posted, or for how long), but you must first be registered to have a recording made available to you (if it turns out okay, you'll hopefully get a chance at a playback of these sessions).

The podcast we're working on about Powers of Attorney designations, one girlfriend's cautionary tale to help you be better prepared, is still a work in progress. Coming soon!

Check out our October sessions! Hope to see you there. Invite the new-to-the-workforcers in your life too, so they can start with a strong first foot forward on these decisions.

E.M.Powers ("el") is a regular person with no particular financial credentials or expertise who happens to be a money enthusiast and the founder of The Money Matters Club, a virtual watercooler for like-minded individuals with a thirst for building their own financial health. Since 2006, she's helped thousands of co-workers build their financial literacy and wealth by participating in The Money Matters Club, a community she built on her employer's internal network. Since 2023, she's been attempting to scale The Club's reach through its second home on the World Wide Web. Her opinions--as well as the opinions of all participants--are just that: opinions, which are subject to flawed logic, math, typos and correction. She keeps a growth mindset and is also always learning something new or bolstering her own understanding after discussions at The Club. All information shared is done so with the best intent to inspire and empower others to learn more about money considerations toward building their own financial muscles. Nothing shared is meant as individualized advice that anyone should act on without doing their own curious research and personal decision making. There are no dumb questions at The Money Matters Club. Your financial health and literacy are what this Club cares about. All investing involves risk. All results can and will vary.
